Thursday in the NHL | The Blues defeat the Maple Leafs 5-1

(Toronto) Jordan Binnington gave the Toronto Maple Leafs almost nothing, posting a 40-save performance in a 5-1 victory for the St. Louis Blues against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Binnington won a 147e game with the Blues, one less than Jake Allen in second place in club history.

Dylan Holloway scored two goals for the Blues. Philip Broberg, Alexandre Texier and Jake Neighbors also hit the target. Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich collected two assists.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson was the lone scorer for the Maple Leafs, as head coach Craig Berube led a first game against his former team with which he won the Stanley Cup in 2019.

In his first start of the season, Joseph Woll allowed four goals on 26 shots in front of the Maple Leafs cage.

Wild 4 – Lightning 2

Matt Boldy broke the tie with 54 seconds left in the third period and the Minnesota Wild defeated the Lightning 4-2 in Tampa.

The Wild have yet to lose in regulation this season, posting a 5-0-2 record.

Marc-André Fleury made 23 saves to win his first game this season and a 562e in career.

Boldy’s power play goal gave the Wild a 3-2 lead. Kirill Kaprizov scored twice and Joel Eriksson Ek completed the scoring in an empty cage.

Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov responded in this first defeat in four home games for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy blocked 14 pucks, but suffered a third loss in a row.

Panthers 3 – Rangers 1

Anton Lundell and Carter Verhaeghe scored in the first three minutes of the game and the Florida Panthers defeated the Rangers 3-1 in New York.

It was a first setback in regulation time this season for the Rangers (5-1-1).

Sam Bennett, with his sixth goal of the campaign, scored the other goal for the Panthers (5-3-1), who sit at the top of the Atlantic section with 11 points.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves to get his 400e victory in the National Hockey League.

Alexis Lafrenière scored the Rangers’ only goal, his fourth of the campaign.

Igor Shesterkin stopped 26 shots in the loss.

Stars 5 – Bruins 2

Tyler Seguin and Matt Duchene each had a goal and two assists to help the Dallas Stars win 5-2 against the Bruins in Boston.

Jason Robertson, Logan Stankoven and Roope Hintz also found the back of the net for the Stars, who are 6-2-0 since the start of the campaign.

Mason Marchment had two assists and Casey DeSmith stopped 25 shots.

David Pastrnak and Justin Brazeau responded for the Bruins, who lost a second game in a row.

Jeremy Swayman, who lost his last four starts (0-3-1), blocked 27 pucks.

Devils 3 – Red Wings 5

Patrick Kane scored his 77e career game-winning goal on a power play with 3:32 remaining, giving the Red Wings a 5-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils in Detroit.

Christian Fischer and Alex DeBrincat scored within a 26-second span late in the first period for the Red Wings. Dylan Larkin and Michael Rasmussen also moved the ropes. Cam Talbot stopped 40 pucks.

With its 142e et 143e goals, Hischier joined and overtook Quebecers Claude Lemieux and Jamie Langenbrunner, pointing to 13e rank in the history of the organization. At his 700e match in the National Hockey League (NHL), Erik Haula also made the red light shine.

Jacob Markstrom allowed four goals on 19 shots in the loss.
