Matilde Lorenzi, a talented Italian skier, was fatally injured when she fell during training. The Ministry of Defense and the National Federation of Winter Sports FISI informed about the death of the 19-year-old competitor, who in March became the national champion in the super-giant slalom and won two places in the top ten in the speed disciplines at last year’s Junior World Championships.
Lorenzi fell during Monday’s training in Val Senales in South Tyrol. According to witnesses, she lost control of her skis at high speed, which took off, and crashed face first into the icy slope. A rescue helicopter took her to a hospital in Bolzano, where she succumbed to her injuries this morning.
Lucrezia Lorenzi’s younger sister, who has already appeared in the World Cup, was currently in the third group of the national team.
The member of the army sports center won the Italian title in the super-G in Sarentino in March, last year at the MSJ in Chatel she took sixth place in the downhill and eighth in the super giant slalom.
