MLS goalkeeper Holden Trent has died aged just 25. This is confirmed by his club Philadelphia Union at X.
“Philadelphia Union is devastated by the heartbreaking passing of Holden Trent. He was a great player and a competitive person. But above all, he was a devoted son, brother, fiance and teammate who lifted everyone around him,” writes the club on X.
The club has not released a cause of death, but his family wrote, via Trent’s Instagram account, that he was hospitalized and receiving intensive care earlier this week, according to USA Today.
“He will be missed,” continues the club at X.
Trent was drafted to Philadelphia in 2023 and managed to play a total of six games for the club’s reserve team.
