Right-back for the Greek National Team and Panathinaikos, George Baldock was found dead this Wednesday (9) in the swimming pool of his home, in Glyfada, on the outskirts of Athens. The local press reported that the player was “at the bottom of the pool” and a bottle of alcohol was found at the scene. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Also according to the Greek press, Baldock’s wife, who was abroad, contacted the owner of the residence after being unable to reach her husband by phone. Police cars and an ambulance were outside the building, and a coroner was called to examine the body.
Born in Buckingham, England, Baldock had dual nationality, Greek and English. In May, he signed a three-year contract with Panathinaikos, one of the country’s top clubs. Previously, he wore the shirt of Sheffield United, England, 205 times.
The right-back was called up for the first time to the Greek national team in 2022. For his country, he played 12 matches and did not score a goal. Last Sunday (6), Baldock played for Panathinaikos in the 0-0 draw with Olympiacos, in the Superliga, having spent 75 minutes on the field.
