Things are going extremely well for TSV Gnarrenburg in the Lüneburg badminton district league, as well as they almost didn’t think possible. The most recent matchday provided further proof. Captain Axel Renken’s team had actually calculated 3:1 points from the games against Blau-Weiß Buchholz III and MTV Hanstedt – the result was two wins, i.e. four points. This means that the Gnarrenburgers remain leaders.
TSV Gnarrenburg – Blau-Weiß Buchholz III 6:2: The hosts already had a good starting position after the opening doubles. The men’s doubles of Christian Tiedgen and Marco Wellbrock performed averagely enough to win in two sets. The second men’s doubles with Axel and Jaret Renken, however, had to clearly admit defeat before Manuela Renken and Christin Kästner restored the lead.
In the first men’s singles, Stefan Meyer used all his experience against his young opponent Ole Blanck. He repeatedly took the pace out of the rallies and tried to get by with just a few smashes. The score finally worked out at 21:19, 21:16. Teammate Axel Renken looked at two completely different runs. An extremely competitive 27:25 was followed by a remarkable 21:0. Since Manuela Renken had no problems with her opponent Hanna Ohlsen, the victory was already certain before the last two games.
MTV Hanstedt – TSV Gnarrenburg 2:6: This time the beginning was exactly the opposite. Only Christin Kästner and Manuela Renken emerged as winners from the doubles. Christian Tiedgen and Marco Wellbrock’s comeback came too late after a weak first round, while the other men’s doubles with Axel and Jaret Renken lost again.
Things went even better in the individual cases. Stefan Meyer not only took revenge against Ulf Speer for the previous defeat, he actually duped his opponent with a 21:13, 21:6 win. The short balls really made the Hanstedter despair. “His opponent said afterwards that he had never lost so much before,” explained Axel Renken. In the second men’s singles, Christian Tiedgen also had “a great day,” as Renken described it. There was certainly no indication of this after the 11:21 score in the first half. But Tiedgen was unbeatable, especially when it came to net play, and scored a lot of points as a result. An almost flawless game gave him 21:15 and 21:15 in the final sets. Meanwhile, Axel Renken benefited from his opponent’s high number of errors in his individual victory.
With her hard-fought individual victory, Manuela Renken gave her a 5-2 lead and thus secured the victory early. The final point was the mixed doubles around Christin Kästner and Stefan Meyer. “We’re looking forward to the next matchday. In Verden we’ll face the second-placed BV Verden, who are also still unbeaten, and the resurgent third-placed VfL Stade,” said Axel Renken.
