Metjendorf – The Weser-Ems district badminton championships took place in Metjendorf at the weekend. 109 participants took part. After more than 160 games, the titles in the five disciplines were awarded – and participants from TV Metjendorf were ahead in all five disciplines. The placings in the men’s and mixed doubles were particularly impressive, in which the top four were made by the Ammerlanders.

The men’s singles was a clear affair for the former North German champion Frank Juchim. In the final he defeated Gianluca Schulte (FC Schüttorf) 21:14, 21:14. Marcus Weltzien (Post SV Leer) came third ahead of Alexander Harms (TV Metjendorf).

In the women’s singles there was a Metjendorf final: Anja Duda prevailed against Melanie Cronenberg after a score of 21:16, 21:15. Yelyzaveta Kraiva (Oldenburger TB) and Kyra Abeln (TV Metjendorf) followed in the next places. From the semi-finals onwards, only Metjendorf teams played in the men’s doubles. After a 21:17, 21:7 over Leon Kneip/Matthias Tschöpe, Frank Juchim/Tim Stuckenschneider became district champions. In the game for third place, the veterans Johann Barth/Frank Peter met Tim Puls/Henning Lütjelüschen. Surprisingly, Puls/Lütjelüschen won in three sets after extra time.

Kyra Abeln/Chantal Stobbe won the women’s doubles title after winning the final 21:15, 21:16 against Anna Mahnken/Lara Riekhoff (BC 82 Osnabrück/SV Veldhausen). Diajeng Atmojo/Melanie Cronenberg (TV Metjendorf) came third after beating Anna Bölk/Sina Grabowski (Oldenburger TB).

There was a big surprise in the mixed doubles when Metjendorf’s Andreas Karnbach/Chantal Stobbe defeated the clear favorites and top seeds Frank and Anja Eilers (Delmenhorster FC) in the quarter-finals after three sets in extra time. After both won the semi-final against Matthias Tschöpe/Melanie Cronenberg, they then had to admit defeat in the final against Tim Stuckschneider/Jule Schalt. Tschöpe/Cronenberg came third ahead of Niklas Rahenbrock/Anja Duda.

The first four have qualified for the Lower Saxony Championships, which will take place on 7/8. December in Gifhorn.
