Two World Cup placements in Sarajevo – Judo Regional Association Salzburg

Scharfi in fifth place, Michi in seventh place

– A Salzburg quartet was in World Cup action at the European Open in Sarajevo at the weekend. Especially for Thomas Scharfetter (-90kg / ESV Sanjindo), after his long injury break, it is important to get back to the successes before his injury-related absence. After his 7th place in the international comeback in September at the Grand Prix in Zagreb, Scharfi can also compete again in Sarejevo.

After a bye and second-round victory over Purnat (SLO), the 23-year-old from St. Johann lost to local hero Vucurevic (BIH) in the quarter-finals. In the repechage round he defeated Nieto Trinidad (ESP), before losing to No. 1 seed Petgrave (GBR) in the small final and thus finishing fifth. In the 90kg class, two other Salzburg players, Tim Schwarzl (PSV Salzburg) and Vilmos Lennert (Sanjindo), were in action, but both had to accept defeats in the opening round.

The European Open in Sarajevo was worth a trip for Michael Niederdorfer (-100kg / Sanjindo), where he achieved his best World Cup result to date with seventh place. “Basically satisfied”Sanjindo neo-coach Paul Devos (FRA), who has already worked as a supervisor in various LV activities, expressed himself with the achievements, “But one or two medals would have been within reach today.”
