Corinthians wants to buy goalkeeper Hugo Souza, but the operation is far from complete. At least in Flamengo‘s view. After the goalless draw that placed the Rio team in the final of the Copa do Brasil this Sunday, 20th, at Neo Química Arena, Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz clarified the situation.

– First, another R$500,000. That’s the definition, plus R$500,000, totaling R$1.5 million that they have to pay – said Braz, regarding the fine that Corinthians has to pay for the use of Hugo Souza against Flamengo, stipulated in the loan contract of the goalkeeper with Timão. As they were unable to finalize the negotiation until last Friday, Timão will have to pay the fine for using the goalkeeper.
On Thursday last week, Corinthians notified Flamengo and informed the Rio club that it wants to exercise the option to purchase goalkeeper Hugo Souza.
The definitive purchase will cost the club’s coffers 800 thousand euros (around 5 million) – for 50% of the economic rights. And Hugo’s new contract with Corinthians would come into effect from January 2025. In the purchase agreement, payment will be made in four installments (January and June of the years 2025 and 2026).
– Regarding the purchase, until now they have not presented the documentation that leaves us with certainty regarding the actual purchase of the athlete and we will wait for this with great peace of mind. When this happens, Flamengo will still have 40% of the athlete. It is important for you to have a great position with a player here at Corinthians, because he is a player who will naturally gain value here. Now, we need this first step to be definitively implemented. Until it is implemented, it will remain as it is. I even wanted to schedule a friendly match to earn another R$500,000 – joked the red-black leader.
It was expected that the São Paulo club would be able to buy the archer on the 1st of this month, but the definitive purchase option could only be made from the 10th of October.
