Circana has published in these hours (via GamesIndustry.biz) the report on the progress of the US video game market to August 2024, revealing a 7% revenue decline to $4.1 billion compared to the same period last year.
Consoles saw the main decline, with sales down 36% compared to August 2023 to $208 million. The platform with the greatest drop in sales is Nintendo Switch, which sold 41% less: PS5, despite everything, remains the best-selling console even in August.
Moving on to games, Madden NFL 25 was the best-selling title in August: it is the twenty-fifth year in a row where Madden is the best-selling game in its debut month. EA Sports College Football is in second place in the ranking, overtaking Helldivers 2. As for the new releases of the month, Star Wars: Outlaws debuts in third place, while Square Enix’s Visions of Mana is positioned in tenth place.
Finally, as regards accessories, spending fell by 3% to 173 million dollars. The best-selling accessory in August is the PS5 DualSense controller in Midnight Black, while the PlayStation Portal remains the best-selling accessory of the year.

Madden NFL 25 was the best-selling video game of August 2024 – the 25th consecutive year in which a new Madden NFL franchise release was the best-selling title in its release month. This streak began with the release of Madden NFL 2001 in August of 2000.

August video game hardware spending dropped 36% when compared to a year ago, to $208 million. All current generation console hardware platforms declined by at least 34% when compared to a year ago, with Switch showing the sharpest year-on-year fall (-41%).

Consumer spending on Accessories in August fell 3% when compared to a year ago, to $173M. Growth in the Remote Play Device segment (PlayStation Portal), was offset by a 10% year-on-year decline in Gamepad spending.
