The most impressive Dutch people on a bicycle this year were Mathieu van der Poel and Marianne Vos. During the annual Cycling Gala, 29-year-old Van der Poel and 37-year-old Vos were named Cyclist and Cyclist of the Year.

Team sprinters on the track Roy van den Berg, Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland have been voted Cycling Team of the Year.

Van der Poel received the Gerrit Schulte Trophy for the fourth time in his career. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider had an extremely successful year in the saddle as world champion. He won the road classics the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

Van der Poel also became cyclo-cross world champion for the sixth time and won the world title in gravel. He also won bronze during the road race at the World Championships in Zurich.

Vos won the Keetie van Oosten-Hage Trophy for the tenth time, for the world title in clay court and her Olympic silver during the road race in Paris. She also won the spring races Omloop het Nieuwsblad, Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Amstel Gold Race.

In the battle for selection, Vos defeated, among others, Puck Pieterse, who became world mountain biking champion and rode among the best thirteen at four different World Championships (road race, cyclo-cross, gravel and mountain biking, ed.).

In the men’s battle, Van der Poel defeated, among others, Lavreysen, the track cyclist who completed his unique hat trick at the Paris Olympics with gold in the individual sprint, keirin and the team sprint. He did that again last week at the World Cup.

With the team sprinters, Lavreysen was voted the best cycling team of the year. Earlier in the year, the team sprinters already raced to the European title. Last week at the World Championships in Denmark, Van den Berg, Lavreysen and Hoogland cycled to the world title in the team sprint for the sixth time.

21-year-old Tibor del Grosso won the Gerrie Knetemann Trophy for the Rider of the Future.
