The Varela Junior Club wrote, in the history of Varela sports, the chapter of its first participation in the 2024 South American Masters Swimming Championship, held from October 15 to 20 at the Youth Olympic Park in Buenos Aires.
Under the direction of coach Diego Roldán, the Varela team, in its first international foray, marked an unprecedented milestone. Nazareno Oliva became the club’s first South American champion, conquering the 400 meter medley. Fernando Louriño won the runner-up position in the same event, while Federico Contrera, Argentine champion, reaffirmed his dominance by winning the 400 and 800 meter freestyle.
The team also had the solid performances of José Barraza, Leandro Nahuel Rincón, César Leandro Domínguez and Hermes Molaro, who completed the historic feat.
It is the first time that Florencio Varela’s swimming has been measured at an international level. This participation marks a before and after for the club, which has already proven to be at the height of the highest competitions.
What began as a dream is now reality and has become history.
