For a ninth consecutive year, the annual badminton tournament for the six elementary schools of the Viamonde School Board of London, Sarnia and Windsor took place in the gymnasium of Lamothe-Cadillac Secondary School in Windsor on March 6.

Each of the teams from La Pommeraie, La Tamise, Marie-Curie, Les Rapides, L’Envolée and Louise-Charron elementary schools was made up of 20 players of 5e et 6e years for a total of 120 participants. They competed against each other in singles and doubles competition. The referees were students from the Lamothe-Cadillac school.

As for La Pommeraie school in London, 3 girls and 3 boys played in the singles category and 7 teams competed in the doubles category.

“We asked all the players what they preferred: playing as a team or alone. But they can’t play in both categories. We spent the day practicing this sport while speaking French. It was really beautiful to see. There was a great atmosphere and a great sporting spirit between the teams,” comments Érica Ionas, teacher at La Pommeraie.

For the award ceremony, the first, second and third place winners received medals. The total points of each student allowed the final ranking of the schools, the first three of which received banners of honor.

For La Pommeraie, Ryan got second place in the boys’ singles category, Sabrina took first place in the girls’ singles category and Hania and Safia won gold for the girls’ doubles. The total accumulation of points gives the school the banner of second place in the ranking for the 2024 badminton tournament, behind the Louise-Charron school.

Congratulations everyone!
