Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland were caught on camera smiling Manchester City knocked out of Carabao Cup after being defeated by Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 at Tottenham Stadium, London, Wednesday (30/10) evening local time.

Two goals from Timo Werner and Pape Sarr ensured Tottenham beat Man City 2-1 and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. The Citizens were only able to reply to one goal through Matheus Nunes.

Guardiola fielded many substitute players and young players in this match. James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly started, while Jacob Wright (19 years) and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey (18 years) came on in the second half.

Erling Haaland and Ederson only sat on the bench. Meanwhile, mainstay players such as Josko Gvardiol and Bernardo Silva only entered in the second half.

The Carabao Cup doesn’t seem like a priority trophy for Manchester City. Guardiola and Haaland were even caught on camera smiling during second half injury time when Man City was trailing 1-2 to Tottenham.

With this season’s busy schedule, plus many injured players, losing a tournament like the Carabao Cup is actually a ‘breath of fresh air’ for Man City. After the match, Guardiola admitted that Man City only has 13 truly fit players at the moment.

“We [hanya] having 13 players, we were really in trouble. The players who came out, most of them had problems and we’ll see how they recover. “I think we are in trouble, because in nine years we have never been in a situation with so many injuries,” said Guardiola.

Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are injured. Manuel Akanji was injured in the warm-up ahead of Tottenham, while Ruben Dias and Savinho were injured during the match.

Guardiola then said that after the Tottenham vs Man City match, only three players would undergo training today, Thursday (31/10). The three players are Haaland and the two goalkeepers, Ederson and Scott Carson.

Guardiola was also happy that Manchester City was defeated by Tottenham. This was Man City’s first defeat in an official match since being beaten by Manchester United in the FA Cup final last May.

“This is the news, not that we lost, but how long it’s been since we lost. Of course with the FA Cup final we were a bit tipsy, but it’s good news. I don’t like losing, but this competition [Carabao Cup] slightly different. “I like seeing how the team plays,” said Guardiola.
