Vollering Joins FDJ-Suez: A New Era in Cycling and Her Unforgettable Smile

There is finally clarity about Demi Vollering‘s future team. The Dutch player signs a two-year contract with FDJ-Suez. In recent years, Vollering has raced with great success at SD Worx-Protime. For example, she won the 2023 Tour de France Femmes for the Dutch team and the Vuelta this year.

‘From the first meeting with the FDJ-Suez I had a good feeling. I couldn’t get the smile off my face. I am happy to start this adventure, to experience something new and to rediscover myself in this team,” said Vollering about her long-awaited transfer.

In recent years, Vollering has looked with great admiration at the course of her new employer. ‘I have always loved FDJ-Suez’s collective fighting spirit and attacking mentality during matches. We are going to have a great team and I am confident that great things are in store for us.”

Vollering wore yellow this year, but just missed out on winning the Tour.

‘We couldn’t have dreamed bigger’

FDJ-Suez general manager Stephen Delcourt expressed himself in an interview with Cyclingnews naturally pleased with Vollering’s arrival. ‘It is an important and memorable day for FDJ-Suez. It’s a big day for French cycling too, to be fair; As a French team we have managed to attract the best female cyclist in the world. It is the first time that a world top player has chosen a French team,” said a very proud Delcourt.

‘This has been an ambition for our team and in the past three years and three editions of the Tour de France our sport has changed a lot. The new ambition for our team is to not only be a women’s cycling team, but to be a cycling and sports team in general. We couldn’t have dreamed bigger than signing Demi,” Delcourt concludes.

It became clear early in the season that the paths between Vollering and SD Worx would part. Subsequently, there was plenty of speculation about her future. Several teams passed by, including UAE Team ADQ, the women’s team from the Emirates. The team reportedly agreed to pay her an annual salary of one million.

Vollering ultimately did not opt for that million-dollar salary, but went to FDJ-Suez. She will definitely meet three compatriots with the French formation next season: Nina Buijsman, Amber Kraak and Lauren Molengraaf. That may become four when the team extends Loes Adegeest’s contract. Vollering also continues to collaborate with Lars Boom. The former rider was previously announced by FDJ-Suez as a reinforcement of the staff.
