The Conlie basketball club (Sarthe) has 230 members in all categories. Orange ball fans evolve under the leadership of the president Antunes Tony.
The latter, newly elected, is counting on the dynamism of Noah Melecco, a young coach employed part-time, and 24 volunteer supervisors, to bring all these beautiful people together.
“We might be a little more in a few weeks, but we can’t push the walls of the Conlie gymnasium. Having an additional play area, which means expanding the current room to meet our needs and those of all the sports associations of Conlie, then of the André-Pioger college, would be a great step forward for our overall development. Sport is a very important factor for health, but also in terms of the image of a territory. »
“We need to double the training sessions”
To train young and old with a real desire to help them develop effectively, Antunes Tony is convinced that doubling up on workouts is a necessity.
“We are in the top 20 of Sarthe clubs and we have this desire to aim higher at the sporting level. A club must be a force of proposal. We still need to listen to him and meet him. The gymnasium, located a stone’s throw from the college, was rehabilitated a few months ago. Overall, it was well done. If we had come to chat with the gym users, we would undoubtedly have avoided a little hiccup. We have beautiful and brand new taps, but given the shape of the sinks, we can’t even fill the water bottles for the children! Of course, there is still time to rectify the situation, but it’s a way of saying that we don’t talk to each other and it’s damaging! »
Astonishment and dismay among the local sports structures
Faced with the project of a brand new dojo in Domfront-en-Champagne, the sports associations using the Joël Le Theule gymnasium, in Conlie, do not remain indifferent. All present with the André Pioger college during the 4CPS community council on June 25, they were surprised by “the responsiveness and speed of the 4CPS in providing a positive response to the feasibility study of a dojo” on Domfront.
In a letter sent to the 4CPS, to which we had access, several of these associations expressed their dismay at this situation. At the top of their argument, the fact of seeing the project to extend the Conlie gymnasium, thought for three years and estimated at “one million euros subsidized at 70% thanks to the Terre de Jeux 2024 campaign”, passed to the trap without even being “brought to the vote in front of all the elected officials of the 4CPS”. This one was worn by the Conlie basketball club. If the 4CPS considers that the gymnasium has already been renovated, for the associations, “this does not in any way change the problem of chronic lack of slots”.
“We fight every year so that our activities and our territory are attractive. So that the young people of our territory can continue to have a coherent and quality sporting offer. To transmit strong values common to all sports clubs such as respect , self-sacrifice, self-sacrifice… and therefore to train the citizens of tomorrow”, recall the association leaders and education professionals through this letter.
Faced with this desire to make the elected representatives of the 4CPS aware that the sporting offer in the sector “cruelly lacks infrastructure”, the local sports associations maintain that the request made by the judo club for a compliant dojo is “absolutely justified in looking at the number of club licensees and the reception conditions for the latter in their current setting. But, they invite “the judo club and the elected officials of the territory to support our request as we support theirs”.
“An expansion of the gymnasium is possible”
According to the president of the basketball club, “ the expansion of the gymnasium is technically possible. And to achieve this objective to make life easier for all local associations, it is imperative that all the clubs concerned and the leaders of the 4CPS meet and discuss who is possible or not. It is through direct and frank dialogue that we will be able to find the best solution.”
“Like all the clubs using the gymnasium,” concludes Antunes Tony. I am happy that the Judo-Club is making things happen and that the 4CPS is planning a sleepover in Domfront-en-Champagne. I have absolutely nothing against judokas or their leaders, I am simply saying that we too need a sports facility to meet the expectations of our members. I am not asking for its construction for tomorrow, but we must already discuss it seriously to have a vision for the future. »
