Pickleball is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis, paddle tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It can be played individually or in pairs, and can be played indoors or outdoors on courts similar to tennis courts but with much smaller dimensions.
Although it remained in the shadows for several years, it began to grow and gain popularity worldwide. Increasing by 159% in three years to 8.9 million in 2022, according to a report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, a phenomenon that is now also reflected in the territory.

Regarding this, Mauricio Gómez, Country Manager of easycancha, mentions that the Pickleball is played on a smaller court than tennis and is therefore known for its accessibility and ease of learning, similar to what happens with paddle tennis. This makes it more fun and accessible to people of any age, leading to a considerable increase in clubs.
Gómez affirms that a significant growth has been noted in the reserves of this sport in the country, being Bogotá, Bucaramanga and Pereira, the cities where the greatest amount of pickleball practice predominates. Furthermore, those who participate the most are men at 82%, who economically correspond to more than 57 million pesos, and women more than 13 million pesos.
“We have seen that the growth of pickleball bookings has increased significantly from January to September, which indicates the commitment of the clubs in the sports ecosystem, and the boost to the industry, the economy and the health of Colombians,” adds Gómez.

For their part, today several clubs also propose the creation of tournaments with the aim of increasing the community by attracting new players and/or spectators in order to encourage sport as a lifestyle.
