Vincent Kompany: The line-up against Stuttgart seemed like a sign

Unlike his sometimes eloquent predecessors Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, Kompany avoids making overly emotional statements. He chooses his words very matter-of-factly, hardly addresses individual players or topics from the busy club environment, and focuses on his core business. With this strategy, he does not offer any areas of attack and does not open up any unnecessary secondary theaters of war. Hysteria seems completely alien to Kompany.

This is how he dealt with the critical questions that arose about his courageous style of play after the three games without a win. FC Bayern did not win against their high-class opponents Leverkusen, Aston Villa and Frankfurt. But they all dominated with high defense and aggressive pressing and (significantly) created more chances than allowed. “If you remain objective, it would be stupid to change everything just because the result didn’t work out,” said Kompany.

The trainer conveyed complete confidence with his statements. The line-up against Stuttgart seemed like another sign: for the first time this calendar year, FC Bayern started two competitive games in a row with the same starting eleven. No actionist upheavals.

After Kompany rotated a lot in the early stages of the season, a preferred starting eleven has recently been established. Only Raphael Guerreiro and Konrad Laimer, who were not in the position, took turns at right back in the absence of the injured starting eleven candidates Sacha Boey and Josip Stanisic. On offense it was important to replace the injured Jamal Musiala.
