The NBA is considered by many to be the best and most spectacular league in the world, not just when it comes to basketball. Despite its many advantages, however, the NBA also has defects and some problems, one of these in recent years is represented by the All Star Game, harshly criticized in recent days even by Barack Obama. Joe Mazzullacoach of the reigning champion Boston Celtics, however, has other priorities.
Guest of the radio program Zolak & Bertrand, who covers all sports in Boston, Mazzulla revealed what he thinks the NBA is missing: fights.
“Speaking of entertainment, what’s more fun than a little fight? In other sports there is no ban on emptying the benches when there is a fight, and they have weapons to play with. We only have a ball, others have iron pads and bats. At least let us give you some!” Mazzulla said, perhaps jokingly, but probably not entirely.
The Celtics coach also proposed a rule that he would introduce into basketball: temporary expulsions, like with the blue card in some football leagues or as happens in hockey. “Basketball lacks a power play. There are technical fouls, but you only get one free throw: if you miss it, it’s like having nothing. There should be a rule that makes you play 4vs5 for 5″ or 3 passes, when you get a technical foul or commit an unsportsmanlike foul” Joe Mazzulla said.
Joe Mazzulla has a few interesting rule change ideas for the NBA… he wants the league to add a power play, and to bring back fighting 🤔@ZoandBertrand pic.twitter.com/6czizVLe33
