Why Paris Saint-Germain’s Refusal to Pay Kylian Mbappé Could Benefit Real Madrid

French football club Paris St. Germain has refused to comply with a Ligue 1 order to pay €55 million to his former player Kylian Mbappé. This was reported by the AFP agency on Friday.

The league’s legal commission ordered PSG to pay at the beginning of September. This is a three-month unpaid salary and the so-called the “ethical” bonus to which Mbappé is entitled after leaving for Real Madrid in the summer. According to the club, the players’ entitlement to bonuses was canceled by agreement of both parties before last season.

The 25-year-old striker was not given a place in the team at the time due to his decision not to exercise the one-year option in the contract, and in the end he had to give up the bonuses in exchange for his reintegration into the team.

The departure of the French world champion was talked about for several years, and in the final year there was a noticeable tension between him and the club. PSG offered Mbappé the most lucrative contract in their history in 2022, and after his announced departure, relations cooled significantly.

The club tried to sell him to Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia, and he eventually left for Real Madrid as a free agent. Mbappé, on the other hand, felt frustrated, as the club did not bring the promised reinforcements.
