The second-year basketball player for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Owen Freemanstands out on the court for his 6-foot-10-inch height, but his commitment to clean language is what really sets him apart.

“I attribute a lot of that to my faith. “It’s a huge part of who I am,” said about why he doesn’t swear, adding that he is a “son of God.”

He understands that it might be the closest thing anyone will ever read to a Bible, so he wants to set an example of Christ.

“I feel like I am the Bible that people read,” he explained. “Not everyone is going to open the Bible, so I have to shine the light of God.”

Freeman is known for sharing Christ with others through his words as well.

“He’s completely focused on it, and it’s really something incredible to see,” said High school and college teammate Brock Harding on Freeman. “He’s always going to talk to you about God, and it’s just a great thing to have on your side.”

Likewise, his high school coach Sean Taylor said In a video shared by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in 2023, Freeman lives his faith “day by day.”

“That’s him, that’s his family,” Taylor added. “He’s not afraid to show it… He lives it, and I think that’s why people respect him so much.”

Freeman hopes people see Jesus through him.

He wants “use my platform as a way to spread the love that God has for us, the mission that he has for us.”

“Some non-believers are not going to read the Bible, they are going to read us. So when we give that example of godly characteristics,” he added, “they’re going to [notar] ‘Hey, he’s different. Let me see what that’s all about,’ and that’s our way of being able to witness to people.”
