Things don’t look good for Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally‘s title dreams for long. But a comeback pushes the door wide open to the championship.

The national basketball players Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally are only one win away from the first championship of their careers in the WNBA finals. Despite being behind for a long time, the New York Liberty won against the Minnesota Lynx 80:77 in Minneapolis and have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Fiebich again had a strong performance with 13 points in front of the 19,521 spectators. Sabally got 4 points. Breanna Stewart scored the most points with 30.

In contrast to the first two games in New York, the Liberty immediately fell behind and were already ten points behind after the 18:28 first quarter. Above all, Sabally’s energy helped the team to get back into the game a bit before the break. Nevertheless, the guests did not seem nearly as dominant as in the two games in front of their own crowd in New York. They had a double-digit lead at times, but gave up the first game. This time it was the other way around. Sabrina Ionescu hit a three-pointer to win.

For the last time, three wins are enough to win the championship

For the last time this year, three wins are enough to win the title. Starting next season, the final series will be played in best-of-seven mode, like in the NBA. The Liberty, who also reached the final last year and lost to the Las Vegas Aces, are still waiting for their first championship. They finished the main round as the best team ahead of the Lynx, who could become the WNBA’s sole record winner with their fifth title.
