Championship confirmed 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand™ Over the growth of women’s football around the world with the support of FIFA. A host of new teams impressed, and for the first time, countries from all six continental confederations won during the tournament.

This growth on the pitch highlights FIFA’s continued investment in women’s football, and is sure to increase further when the tournament is held in South America for the first time. Brazil will host the world in 2027.

The tournament will coincide with FIFA’s stated goal of having 60 million girls and women playing football worldwide by 2027.

FIFA has worked hard alongside its Member Associations to stimulate and encourage the growth of participation. One of FIFA’s main programs for the development of women’s football Which member federations benefit from are: Women’s football campaignan initiative in line with Goal 1 (Development and Growth) of the FIFA Women’s Football Strategy (2018-2027).

This is usually done through the relevant major associations working with FIFA to deliver grassroots football events and provide a free-play space where players can feel included, entertained and inspired. From Tahiti to Puerto Rico, Honduras to Ecuador, Kenya to Laos, the 2024 edition highlighted a variety of culturally diverse associations that worked alongside FIFA to provide social and inclusive opportunities for like-minded children to experience football in a fun environment. Tahiti (June 2024)

Logistical challenges were overcome as FIFA supported the women’s football campaign sessions in Tahiti, with young people traveling from remote islands within French Polynesia. Participants joined the festival sessions not only from the main island of Tahiti, but also from the neighboring island of Murewa, the Marquesas Islands and the more distant Leeward Islands. This increased activity comes against the backdrop of Tahiti reaching third place in the U-16 Women’s World Cup last year.

Puerto Rico (June-December 2024)

Puerto Rico organized a series of women’s soccer campaign festivals in June 2024 and will organize more in December of this year. Impressively, around 1,000 girls from the Caribbean country are expected to have attended the festivals by the end of the year. Majorie Martinez, Director of Women’s Football at the Puerto Rican Football Federation, hopes that many participants will be motivated to continue playing football through these events: “This Women’s Football Festival is the perfect event to continue learning about the sport. “They can participate and meet our national team players and female student athletes from various Puerto Rican universities so that the girls can see and get to know themselves and continue to love this sport.”

Honduras (July, September and October 2024)

The women’s football campaign has been very active in Honduras with festivals organized over four months, July, August, September and October. FIFA’s league development program is also being implemented in Honduras, where the ambitious Central American nation has put in place strong initiatives to develop women’s football.

Ecuador (June, July, August and September 2024)

Collection of the Ecuadorian Football Federation [FEF] Between the Women’s Football Campaign Festivals and FIFA’s League Development Program through 2024 as a way to maximize its impact, and as a means of scouting and monitoring female talent within the country. This comes especially timely with the participation of the South American national team in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup™ For the first time ever this October. The Ecuadorian Football Federation has ensured a wide geographical spread of activities through festivals in Esmeraldas (June), Santa Elena (July), Riobamba (October) and Ibarra (October), with 150 participants participating in each festival. This is the second time Ecuador has benefited from FIFA’s women’s football campaign. Kenya (July and August 2024)

The middle of the year was a busy period in Kenya with festivals being held in Embu and Samburu counties, and Busia hosted a large event during August. The women’s football campaign was successfully launched in the East African country in 2023. After several years of concerted efforts, the Football Kenya Federation was rewarded with an appearance in the first ever Women’s World Championship marking its participation in U-17 Women’s World Cup Organized by FIFA for women this month.

Laos (September 2024)

Last September, the Lao Football Federation in the capital, Vientiane, organized the inaugural event of the women’s football campaign. Participation levels were strong, with approximately 240 girls between the ages of 8 and 16 participating in this entertaining event. Laos women’s national team players were also present to interact with the girls. Mohamed Herman Zaliana, Head of Coaching Education at the Laos Football Federation, said: “Apart from the mini-football matches, a highlight of the campaign was the opportunity to sign autographs for Laos Women’s National Team players and coaches, whose attendance could inspire more girls.” To play football.
