World Series and 2025 season | Dodgers to wear No. 34 patch honoring Fernando Valenzuela

The circular badge, displaying the late pitcher’s No. 34 in blue, on a black background surrounded by blue, will be visible on the sleeve of the players’ jersey. “FERNANDO” will be written in capital letters above the number.

Valenzuela, the outstanding rookie and 1981 National League Cy Young Award winner, died at the age of 63 on Tuesday, the day before the 43e anniversary of his complete game that allowed the Dodgers to defeat the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the World Series. After losing the first two games at Yankee Stadium, the Dodgers won four straight en route to their first title since 1965.

Valenzuela, a six-time All-Star, was 173-153 in 17 major league seasons, including 141-116 with the Dodgers from 1980-90.

His flamboyant style caused “Fernandomania” among Dodgers fans, and he served as the team’s play-by-play announcer from 2003 to 2024.
