WTA: Season over for Naomi Osaka

The injured Japanese Naomi Osaka has ended her season, the organizers of the WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong (October 28-November 3) announced on Monday, in which she had planned to participate.

Quadruple winner of Grand Slam tournaments and ex-world No.1, “Naomi Osaka was forced to withdraw from the Asian tournament due to injury, which unfortunately ends her 2024 season“, indicated the organizers on X.

Today 56th in the WTA rankings, the 27-year-old had to retire in early October in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. She had already had to give up playing in the Tokyo tournament, which begins on Monday.

Double winner of the Australian Open and the US Open, Osaka returned to the professional circuit in January, after a break of more than a year during which she gave birth to a daughter. Since her return, she has not managed to get past the quarter-finals of the tournaments in which she has participated.

I played a lot of tournaments this year, so not playing (in Hong Kong, Editor’s note) and obviously at the BJK Cup was a very difficult decision to make.“, Osaka said. But “honestly, I loved it” over the past year, she added.
