Bronze for Anton

Shortly after Anton Albrecht attracted attention with the silver medal at the U17 screening tournament a few weeks ago (TME reported), the NRW state judo coach appointed him to the state squad. On the first weekend in October, the Dornap-Düssel unit fighter had his first mission directly in Munich-Großhadern.
The 14-member NRW mixed team was able to prevail against twelve other (national) teams. After a total of seven team fights there was a positive balance of 48:8 fights. In the final, North Rhine-Westphalia defeated the national team from Austria with 4:4 (under score 40:37) points and won the gold medal.
Just a week later, Anton went straight to the international Bayer Cup U17 in Leverkusen. A total of 357 judoka from the U17 and U20 age groups started in the respective weight classes. Anton competed in the over 81 kg weight class in a starting field of 13 participants. In his first fight he defeated his opponent using ippon in just 22 seconds. He only lost to the eventual gold medalist after almost three minutes. In the small final Anton then “closed the bag”. In just 1.17 minutes he defeated his opponent and won the bronze medal. So he has now earned his autumn break.
