Alexander Zverev confirmed his renewed commitment to the third edition of the United Cup. “It’s the first week of the year… and we all want to be in Australia and play against the best players in the world. And that’s what the United Cup brings,” said the 27-year-old from Hamburg, who used this year’s United Cup to optimally prepare for the Australia Open. Together with Angelique Kerber and Laura Siegemund, the French Open finalist was able to win the tournament. It is not yet clear who will be playing alongside Zverev at the next edition in Sidney and Perth.

What is certain, however, is that the Davis Cup final in Malaga does not fit into the Hamburger’s season planning. The team final against Canada would fall precisely in one of the German’s few tournament breaks, which the 27-year-old urgently needs to regenerate. Zverev is still leaving the final decision open.

Coco Gauff gibt United-Cup-Debut

20-year-old Coco Gauff, who has already been chosen as a flag bearer at the Olympic Games, will also enrich Team USA at the United Cup. “It’s my first time taking part in the United Cup and I’m really looking forward to starting the year in Australia. It’s a really cool event. I really enjoyed playing mixed doubles at the Olympics, so I would like to do it again,” said Gauff. Taylor Fritz also confirmed his commitment.

Representing the Canadian team will be Feliz Auger-Aliassime and 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez. “It’s a great start to the year,” said “FAA”. “It’s always good to team up with Leylah. I love their energy and their playing. So it will be a lot of fun.” Tsitsipas, Maria Sakkari, Zheng Qinwen and Casper Ruud had already confirmed their commitment to the third edition of the tournament in September. 18 nations will take part in the tournament. The country competition will take place from December 27th to January 5th in Australia.
