Zverev not yet in top shape after pneumonia

Alexander Zverev informed, among other things, about his health at a media event before the start of the Erste Bank Open in the Wiener Stadthalle.

The top-seeded German, who will face Austria’s young star Joel Schwärzler in the first round, is still complaining about the after-effects of pneumonia.

“It’s not a question of a week or two. I hope that I’ll be back to 100 percent by next year when I arrive in Australia,” said the German.

He had been in poor health for a long time

Zverev had already complained of fever and cough at the Laver Cup in Berlin a good month ago. He then decided not to go to Beijing and was eliminated in the round of 16 at the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

The two-time major finalist knows he still has to be patient. “You have to take the right medication and clean your lungs,” explained Zverev.

He did not want to comment on whether he would also compete for Germany in the Davis Cup final tournament after the ATP Finals in Turin from November 19th to 21st.

Medicine presented for diabetics

Zverev had previously presented a dietary supplement for diabetics that he helped develop. Zverev is affected by the disease himself.

Micronutrients are already pre-dissolved in so-called gel gums, which type 1 diabetics like Zverev would otherwise have to take in various powders or capsules.
