National Men’s Basketball Team defeated Hungary 81-76 away in Group B of the 2025 European Championship Qualifiers.

In the national team, Cedi Osman left his mark on the match with 33 points and 11 rebounds, while Ömer Yurtseven was one of the architects of the victory with 22 points.

With this result, 12 Giant Men guaranteed a place in the top 3 in the group and qualified for the 2025 European Basketball Championship with two matches remaining.

The 2025 European Basketball Championship will be held between 27 August and 14 September, hosted by the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Poland.

15TH TIME IN A ROW

Having participated in all European championships since 1993, the National Men’s Basketball Team thus secured its ticket to Europe for the 15th time in a row.

The National Team, which participated in the European Championship for the first time in 1949, will appear in the European Championship arena for the 26th time in total.

BEST RATING SILVER MEDAL

Türkiye achieved its best result in the European championships by winning the silver medal.
The crescent-star team played in the final of the European Championship held in Turkey in 2001. Having lost to Yugoslavia in the final, the national team achieved the best European ranking in its history.

MINUTES FROM THE MATCH

Türkiye started the match with a 9-0 run with Cedi Osman’s 9 points and was ahead 17-10 in the 6th minute with Ömer Faruk’s contribution from under the basket. Türkiye finished the first quarter ahead 21-14.

Hungary, which started the second quarter with a 9-0 run, took the lead for the first time in the match in the 13th minute: 23-21. Returning from the break with a 7-0 lead thanks to Ömer Faruk Yurtseven’s baskets, Türkiye gained a 5-point lead in the 15th minute: 23-28. At the end of the half, the national team took advantage of the opponent’s turnovers and went to the locker room with a 40-31 lead.

Increasing the difference to double digits (31-44) with Ömer Faruk’s dunks at the beginning of the third quarter, Türkiye was ahead 47-33 in the 24th minute. Taking advantage of Turkey’s ball losses, Hungary reduced the difference to 7 points in the 27th minute: 44-51. With Adam Hanga’s 3-pointer at the end of the quarter, Hungary closed the 14-point gap and entered the last quarter with a 54-54 draw.

Hungary started the final period well and gained a 6-point lead (66-60) in the 33rd minute with baskets from behind the 3-point line and forced the national team to take a timeout. Returning from the break with an 8-0 run, Türkiye took the lead again in the 36th minute: 66-68. The crescent-star team was ahead 79-72 in the last 1.5 minutes with Cedi Osman’s consecutive points. Türkiye won the match 81-76 and qualified for the European Championship.
