SANTO DOMINGO.- The Public Ministry reported that it will open an investigation into the death of Ismael Ureña Pérez, a 14-year-old boy, who died after allegedly receiving a veterinary steroid injection.
For this reason, the Commissioner National of Baseball of the Dominican Republic, Junior Noboa, together with Judge Olga Diná Llaverías, head of the National Directorate of Children, Adolescents and Families (Dinafam), will begin an exhaustive investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the death of the young man, who resided in the municipality of San Luis, Santo Domingo Este.
Ismael Ureña, who played baseball at the Yordy Cabrera Baseball Academy with his two brothers, was a young prospect who, according to authorities, was the victim of an illicit practice that ended his life.

Noboa explained that, together with the magistrate, a detailed investigation will be carried out to clarify the causes that ended the life of Ismael Ureña, who was just 14 years old.
The baseball commissioner indicated that he contacted the deceased’s lawyers, although he stressed that the entire investigation will be carried out under the coordination of the Public Ministry and Judge Diná Llaverías.
“This investigation aims to gather all possible data to clarify what happened to this young prospect. Our duty is to ensure a clean and healthy practice of baseball, and we will bring those responsible for this unfortunate event to justice,” said Noboa.
The National Baseball Commissioner also assured that, as part of the measures, actions will be taken on child doping and document falsification.
«There will be consequences. We are going to continue working on all the necessary agreements, since we have the full support of our president, Luis Abinader, who has instructed us to work for children. When these cases occur, there will be consequences for those who dope children and falsify documents. All this will be attended to with special attention and we will work against this scourge,” Noboa added.
In addition, the commissioner reported that other complaints of physical and psychological abuse of children and adolescents at an academy in Boca Chica will be followed up.
