16 years exalting local basketball: Club Deportivo Luram, winner of the Aguas del Altiplano Competitive Fund

For more than 16 years, the Luram Sports Club has been dedicated to training sports competitions in boys, girls and young people from different locations in the Arica and Parinacota region. Its objective is to promote the practice of sport and praise local basketball.

According to Carmen Garrido, President of CD Luram, although the group has existed since 2008, in 2011 its creation was made official through legal personality. “We work with athletes between the ages of seven and 28, both in the Women’s and Men’s branches and who generally correspond to students and young university students from different sectors of the city.”

He adds that, thanks to the continuous work of the coaches and the commitment of the athletes, they have had the opportunity to participate in regional, national and even international tournaments.

“We recently participated in a tournament in Santiago, and we compete regularly in local tournaments of the association, as well as in friendly competitions and other invitations that we receive from outside the country, which are undoubtedly of great motivation for all athletes,” highlights Carmen. Precisely, this was one of the club’s main motivations to participate in the Aguas del Altiplano Community Development Competitive Fund with a project for the acquisition of sports clothing consisting of sweatshirts, sweatpants and T-shirts.

“Thanks to this fund, we can provide our members with proper implementation, which strengthens their self-esteem and allows for long-term sustainable development. In addition, it helps reduce economic gaps, especially due to our geographical location, and improves the quality of life of our entire group,” comments the president of the Luram club.

He specifies that although this is the first time they have applied for the Altiplano Water Competitive Fund, the process was quite simple by working through the digital application platform and also receiving support from the company’s Community area.

“We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to participate in this process, and we look forward to future opportunities to apply again. In addition, we encourage other organizations to present their ideas and take advantage of these funds, which have been of great support for our club,” emphasizes Carmen Garrido.
