A report by Florian Reyscher
The HSG DHfK Leipzig first team had their next home games in the 2nd Bundesliga South last weekend. On Saturday the team welcomed the second team from 1. BC Sbr.-Bischmisheim. The match opened in front of a great audience with the women’s doubles and the first men’s doubles. Laura Adam and Merle Krachudel played a hard-fought game, which they won for Leipzig after five sets.
However, there was bad luck in the men’s doubles of Michel Koucky and Florian Reyscher, which ended abruptly after an exciting initial phase due to an injury to Florian. Since Florian was also supposed to be on the field with Laura for the mixed doubles, the mixed doubles went to the guests without a fight. In addition, Wilhelm Büchner was unable to compete due to illness, so Sven Hendrich made his Bundesliga debut in the second men’s doubles alongside Ludwig Bram. Sven and Ludwig were temporarily leading 2-1 sets, but had to admit defeat in the fifth set.
Unfortunately, Paula-Elisabeth Nitschke was unable to win a set in the women’s singles against the strong Kim Schmidt and Ludwig also suffered a defeat in the first singles. In the last game of the day, Michel showed an excellent performance and won the second singles for Leipzig without losing a set. Despite the fighting performance, the match ended in a 2:5 defeat and Leipzig was unable to collect any points.
On Sunday morning, the people of Leipzig welcomed the players from TV 1860 Hofheim on Raschwitzer Straße. As on Saturday, Merle and Laura started with the women’s doubles, while Ludwig and Michel competed in the first men’s doubles. Unfortunately, Merle and Laura clearly had to admit defeat in three sets. Ludwig and Michel also faced a strong opponent. Despite an exciting second set, which they won 15:14, they lost in the fourth set.
In the second men’s doubles, André Bauer made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga alongside Sven Hendrich. Sven represented the still ailing Wilhelm, while André compensated for Florian’s absence due to injury. After a strong performance and winning the third set, the second doubles match went to the guests in four sets. Unfortunately, Paula was unable to play to her strengths against Mareike Bittner in the women’s singles and lost in three sets. The mixed doubles, with Laura and Sven, also failed to find a recipe against Anika Dörr and Sebastian Grieser and also had to admit defeat in three sets.
Now it was up to Ludwig and Michel to save something in the men’s singles. Ludwig fought his way through an exciting five-set match and was able to get the first point for Leipzig after losing the first two sets. In the last game of the day, Michel once again showed a strong performance and, after losing the third set, won the game in four sets against Simon Discher. Despite the two individual victories, this encounter also ended in a 2:5 defeat. The first points are still a long time coming, but the team showed a strong performance, especially under the difficult circumstances with absences due to illness and injury.
At this point, the team would like to thank Sven and André for their great support and outstanding performance. An equally big thank you goes to the fantastic spectators who created a great atmosphere in the Raschwitz Hall on both days. In addition, the first team players would like to thank the seven young athletes who supported the team as warm-up children on Sunday and who also helped to motivate the team afterwards with their cheering and keeping their fingers crossed next to the field. Thank you for your support!
