A competition awaited by Breton bad players at regional level, the BCK autumn tournament was full, Saturday November 23 and Sunday November 24 in the Cordiers room, in Quimperlé. With 285 players, the show was continuous for two full days. “To simplify the organization, we kept the formula on a single venue which allows matches to be played on seven fields. With 285 players, we were at the threshold of the capacity of this room, we even had to refuse around twenty players,” comments president Jacky Hamoniaux who was able to count on several dozen volunteers to prepare the room, welcome the players and manage the schedule of matches, 195 being played on Saturday and 141 on Sunday.
Quimperlois at the top
This regional tournament is also an opportunity for local players to play at home. The BCK did well by signing 81 players. “As many are also volunteers, we limit ourselves to one table for the club’s players. It also allows more club players to play,” explains Quentin Tuaillon, club coach.
In terms of results, there was no shortage of victories for the BCK which won seven finals with Maïlyss Paugam (women’s singles 1), Eliott Lieutier and Mélanie Petiot (mixed doubles 1), Marin Bailleau (men’s singles 2), Laëtitia Cornaly (doubles mixed 3 with Olivier Pons from Lorient), Julien Annezo (men’s singles 4) and Thibaud Robin Le Floch (men’s doubles 4 with Pierre Jouannic from Muzillac). There were also six finalists and 19 semi-finalists.
For the anecdote, the 336th and last match, the final of the men’s doubles 6, was contested by Jacky Hamoniaux and his teammate Dominique Annezo, the duo was only beaten at the end of a third set appreciated by a large audience. This match also marked the comeback of the president-organizer who had not played in a tournament since the 2020 veterans master.
