49ers and Deommodore Lenoir sign 5-year, million contract

The San Francisco 49ers and Deommodore Lenoir have agreed to details on a five-year, US$92 million contract extension that will allow the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/nfl-end-of-season-review-individual-honors/" title="NFL End-of-Season Review: Individual Honors”>cornerback to avoid the free agent market.

A person familiar with the matter confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Tuesday. NFL Network first reported the pact.

Lenoir has become one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL this season. Of 56 passes attempted to players he was covering, only 35 were completed. He didn’t allow a touchdown and threw two interceptions, also returning a blocked field goal attempt for a major.

The 49ers’ two best cornerbacks, Lenoir and Charvarius Ward, could benefit from full autonomy at the end of the season.

Lenoir was selected in the fifth round in 2021 and earned a place in the starting lineup in his second season. He has six interceptions and 23 pass knockdowns in 56 career games.
