After the district and Hessian championships, the tournament season is slowly coming to an end. Last weekend, the penultimate district ranking in category “E” was held for the youth classes in Michelbach and for the school classes in Frankfurt-Riedberg.
In the U17 age group, Moritz Wolpert and Julian Schauer competed for BVG. In his second tournament start, Moritz had to face the eventual finalist in the starting round and lost in two sets. In the placement round he ended up in 18th place. Julian Schauer made it to the round of 16, where he also lost 0-2 sets against the eventual runner-up. He was successful again in the placement round. In his last game, however, he narrowly missed out on 11th place with an unfortunate 19:21 / 21:16 / 18:21 defeat.
At the same time, four student players were taking part in the tournament in Frankfurt-Riedberg. In the boys U15 category, Vincent Leidig suffered a narrow defeat of 21:16 / 19:21 / 19:21 in the opening round. Not everything went according to plan in the placement round either, as several good players slipped in due to their surprising first round defeat. In the end, Vincent only remained in 25th place in the large field of participants. Tim Schleinitz got a bye at the beginning and played a balanced game in round 2, but had to lose it in three sets. He therefore missed out on making it to the round of 16, which would certainly have been a surprise. However, 15th place was one of his best placements this year. Julian Rimmel went far forward. Two wins brought him into the quarterfinals. There the number one seed slowed him down in two sets. With two more clear victories he took a more than deserved fifth place.
Ziling Ma went one place further in the girls U13. It was only in the semifinals that she suffered her first defeat against the eventual winner with 19:21 / 11:21. Unfortunately, she also lost in the small final with 17:21 / 18:21 and thus missed a place on the winner’s podium.
