The New York Yankees have several decisions to make regarding the team for the next MLB season and it is not just about the acquisitions they make in free agency.
The management of the Bronx team is also evaluating possible acquisitions by way of change in this Major League offseason and these movements would involve names well known to the fans.
Néstor Cortés’s could easily be one of them. The 29-year-old lefty doesn’t appear to have a place in the Yankees’ 2025 rotation and could be used as a trade piece this winter to get a valuable player.
The Yankees are looking for a player for first base and journalist Quincy Wheeler of Covering the Corner has a surprising proposal: that they knock on the door of the Cleveland Guardians to negotiate the acquisition of Josh Naylor in exchange for Cortés. “The Yankees haven’t gotten anywhere at first base for a couple of years; Naylor can solve that”Wheeler wrote. “The Guardians desperately need mid-rotation arms; Cortes solves that. I don’t expect this deal to happen, thankfully, but on paper something like this makes sense to me.”.
