A man of great occasions for the University of Montreal Carabins, slotback Carl Chabot saw his career end after another hotly contested duel against the great rivals of Quebec.
Disappointed with the result, the slot half was nevertheless proud of the group of veterans. “It’s not the desired result,” he said of the 22-17 Dunsmore Cup loss. It was a battle of field positioning that Laval clearly won in the second half. It had an impact on our game.”
Winner of a first Dunsmore Cup in 2019 in his rookie season, Chabot quickly established himself as an important piece on the Carabins board.
“I am proud of my career and what we have accomplished as a team over the last five years,” said the man who caught six passes for 50 yards. The family spirit that we have created will remain for a very long time. I thank the Carabins who gave me a lot. I wasn’t the same person when I arrived in 2019.”
Marco Iadeluca paid tribute to Chabot after the match. “Carl is the image of what we want from our student-athletes,” said the Carabins head coach. He excels on the field, in school and is a leader. He’s a gem for a coach.”
After the game, Chabot, who lifted the Dunsmore Cup three times, spent a long time on the field with members of his family and friends.
“The best team won”
Author of six tackles, including two sacks, Jeremiah Ojo had a strong match. “It was a very hotly contested game and the victory could have gone to one side or the other,” said the defensive end who was selected best lineman in the RSEQ. The best team won and hats off to Laval. God is faithful no matter what happens.”
Like Chabot, the John Abbott Islanders product played his last game in the Blues jersey but, in his case, he will make the jump to the CFL. The RSEQ’s outstanding lineman is eligible for the next draft and was ranked 14th when the Central Recruiting Office’s latest ranking was published last August.
Defensive player of choice in the country in 2023, linebacker Harold Miessan finds himself 18th overall.
As for quarterback Jonathan Sénécal, he could return for one last season if the CFL does not open the doors to him. “We would obviously welcome him if he is back, but we hope he breaks into the lineup of a CFL team,” Iadeluca said in closing.
