A gendarme who is a world veteran judo champion. Assigned to Orne departmental gendarmerie group (GGD 61), Adjutant Angélique Duriez contested, on November 7, 2024, the Masters World Championship. The competition took place at vegas.

It was half past midnight on November 8 when Angélique Duriez’s supporters exulted. They stayed very late in front of their screen to see their champion ascend to the roof of the world. Broadcast on the internet, the competition, which took place in the United States, found its outcome. And the Frenchwoman Angélique Duriez became veteran world champion in the under 63 kilo category. His final fight was like the others: expeditious. In less than a minute, she won the gold medal.

The 39-year-old gendarme probably signs the greatest victory of her career. Last year already, she obtained the bronze medal during the World Masters Championships which took place in Abu Dhabi. This medal punctuates weeks of preparation. The gendarme had notably had to deal with a knee injury. Three weeks ago, she finished in second place in the Master Excellence Tournament in Tremblay.

An exceptional track record

Less than a year ago, Angélique Duriez became French military champion again, a title that she had already obtained in 2022. In 2023, she was a bronze medalist. As a reminder, she had put her career as a judokate on hold in 2013. Before this interruption, she had notably been a silver medalist at the European Military Championships (in Slovenia in 2010), a bronze medalist at the World Team Championships ( Kazakhstan in 2013) and several times French military champion (between 2009 and 2013). At almost 40 years old, in 2025 she will try to retain her title of French military champion.
