A new discovery in tennis land: pickleball. A racket sport that lies somewhere between badminton, tennis and table tennis. Brought over from, of course, the United States. And recently it can also be played in Wormer. Sports Hall Wormer and TV De Spatter have had a hit with the introduction of the sport.
While it was initially thought that one evening would be enough, the hours in which the sport was offered quickly doubled. Due to the many registrations, pickleball is now played on Mondays and Thursdays in Wormerse. Marjan Oosthuizen is the proud initiator of the whole story.
Cruise
“I first came into contact with the sport when I was on a cruise. It was played on that boat. When I came back to the Netherlands, I had to go to Castricum to play. That’s why I thought: I think it would be nice to also set up the sport in Wormer.”
And so it happened. The call for registration was immediately responded to with eagerness. Because of the two-on-two format, the social factor is high. That is appealing, Oosthuizen explains. Moreover, the entry level is low, but the challenge comes naturally from wanting to improve.
Get involved!
But you don’t necessarily have to be a tennis player. Of course, everyone plays at their own level, but it is a sport that you can, in principle, do straight away. Even without a tennis background. Come join us sometime, I say!’
If that last sentence sounds like music to your ears… you can register via [email protected] or 06-14250585. And for the real die-hards: next Saturday it will be time for the first ‘Pickleball Party’ in Wormer, also for new members.
