A song prevented the signing of Gianluigi Buffon with Barcelona | TUDN UEFA Champions League

Gianluigi Buffonone of the most emblematic goalkeepers in football, confessed that he could have signed with the Barcelona in the final stretch of his career, but a song prevented him from leaving Italy.

Regarding the presentation of his biography, ‘Fall, get up, fall, get up’, Buffon demonstrated once again why he is considered one of the last romantics of football, since the story behind his failed signing with Barcelona caused sighs to more than one.

“I had an offer from Barça as a second goalkeeper, and I liked the idea of playing with Messi after playing with Cristiano,” he mentioned to Corriere della Sera about his time at Juventus.

“One day, however, I was driving and a song that I love and that I hadn’t heard in 10 years was playing on the radio; ‘ Bella’ de Jovanotti.

“I looked up and saw the Parma toll booth. It was a sign: to close my career where it all began,” he confessed.

Buffon debuted in professional football with Parma in 1995 and it was not until 2023 that he returned to the team that gave him everything as a reward after one of the most successful careers in football.

In August of that year and even though he had a contract until 2024, Buffon decided to hang up his gloves after a series of injuries and he did so with a single phrase: “That’s all, friends.”
