The Villefranche-de-Lonchat judo and taiso club organized a surprise evening at the Villefranche-de-Lonchat village hall, Friday, November 22, to congratulate Magalie Leplet, who returned from the veterans section of the judo world championship, to the United States, with the bronze medal, in the category of over 78 kilos. In early November, she flew to Las Vegas to represent France in the competition, accompanied by her coach husband, Laurent Collas. She won the medal with a magnificent ippon.
The year 2024 has been busy for the sportswoman: first in Tours in April, second in Auch, she wins her ticket to Las Vegas. This summer, she was selected as a volunteer at the Paris Olympic Games, obviously for the judo competitions.
Creation of the club
Invited to the reception in Villefranche-de-Lonchat were the family of Magalie Leplet, numerous friends, Thierry Boidé, president of the Montaigne Montravel and Gurson Community of Communes, and the Municipal Council. Mayor Gilles Taverson briefly returned to Magalie Leplet’s sporting career. In 1994, the Étrépagny club, in Eure, where she comes from, was already celebrating its champion Espoir for her seventh place in the French championship. The following year, she won the interregionals and qualified for the French championships, where she finished on the podium, third.
Her meeting with Laurent led her to settle in Villefranche-de-Lonchat and her passion for judo pushed her to create a club. In 2007, she met the mayor, who is still the current councilor, Gilles Taverson, who installed a cramped prefab behind the school. Cédric Andrieux and Laurent, her husband, have been with her since the beginning to supervise classes for children and adults. Since the creation of the sports hall in 2017, interclub tournaments have been organized.
