This weekend the delegations from Chile and Argentina begin to arrive.
Basketball, volleyball, judo and athletics in the Aysén Region and cycling and soccer in the Magallanes Region, these will be the disciplines that will be played in the 31st Araucanía Aysén 2024 Binational Games and which will receive 1,700 athletes, only in the region, which will begin to arrive this weekend.
The games will be played from November 10 to 16 and will host seven regions of Chile and six provinces in southern Argentina. The opening of the games will be at the Coyhaique Regional Gymnasium at 8 p.m. and will be attended by the Minister of Sports Jaime Pizarro.
At the opening, all the delegations will present themselves and there will be artistic performances and the Olympic flame of the games will be lit.
In Coyhaique the judo and athletics competitions will be held in the regional gymnasium and stadium, while volleyball will be held in the regional gymnasium, in the Parque Austral, Liceo Juan Pablo II, Colegio San José Obrero and the Agricultural School.
Basketball and swimming will be played in the gymnasium of the 21 de Abril Sports Center in Puerto Aysén.
The cycling and soccer competitions will take place in Punta Arenas, Magallanes, a region that will collaborate with Aysén, considering the lack of beds in hotels and which was a problem for the organization.
Seremi María Eugenia Durán has stated that the central thing about these games, beyond the competitive, is a cultural and social exchange and, especially, it is a commitment to peace and camaraderie between the Chilean and Argentine peoples.
The games have been promoted in educational establishments thanks to “Calafatín”, the official mascot. It is emphasized that entry to the sports venues is completely free.
