Several players from the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club competed in events scoring for the national ranking organized by the Castilla y León Federation and the Rioja Federation.
In Lardero, the four displaced Sorianos returned with at least one gold medal each, with special prominence for María González in the under-17 categories and senior Santiago Martínez who returned with two championships each.
The final of María’s individual draw was not exactly easy. After falling in the first set and winning the second, she had to come back from 13-17 to win 21-19 against a local player who was supported by the local fans, demonstrating, in addition to her level, great mental strength.
The doubles modality was more comfortable for the duo formed by Isabel Corchón and María herself. They passed the five matches with ease, accompanied on the podium by a Navarrese couple.
The other two Sorians in the running did so in the senior category. Santiago Martínez and José Carlos Pérez took the absolute victory in doubles. Not being a regular couple, they usually put on great performances in the competition they face together.
They completed their excellent Rioja competition, with medals in their individual categories. Santiago won the gold, while José Carlos won the silver, losing by three sets to a rival from Estella.
Another part of the quarry competed in the Valladolid town of Tordesillas, in a test for under-11, under-15 and under-19 players. The most outstanding performance was the one performed by the under-15 player Jimena Ayllón who won two silver medals.
The Soriano opted to compete in both types of doubles with her club mates, Naroa Alvaro in the women’s doubles and Aarón Barrera in the mixed doubles.
In both draws, the couples from Soria had a placid journey in the previous phase to fall in the final against duos from Valladolid.
Several of the players participating in this test will take advantage of these next three weeks to refine their preparation for their participation in the Spanish U15 championship to be held in the province of Murcia.
