Absolute Italian Badminton and Para Badminton Championships, 3 titles for Piccinin

The 47th edition of the Italian Absolute Badminton and Para Badminton Championships 2024 will be remembered for the historic hat-trick of Emma Piccinin (BC Milano), who won the title in the women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. This extraordinary result had been missing at women’s level since 2010, when the feat was achieved by Federica Panini.

In the women’s singles final, Piccinin got the better of multiple champion Yasmine Hamza (SSV Bozen) in two sets (21-19; 21-14). Two sets were also enough to win the doubles titles, with the clubmates in the women’s doubles together with Martina Corsini (fourth consecutive title in the discipline) and in the mixed with Gianmarco Bailetti (second success after the 2021 title). In the women’s doubles, the Milanese born in 2004 defeated (21-10; 21-13) the very young Sofia Galimberti (2007) and Anna Hell (2008) (ASV Uberetsch), while in the mixed she won (21-19; 21- 14) on David Salutt and Martina Corsini (SSV Bozen/BC Milano).

Third consecutive title for Christopher Vittoriani (MaraBadminton), who defeated Fabio Caponio (CS Aeronautica Militare) in the only final that ended in the third set (21-17; 10-21; 21-13).

The last title up for grabs saw a historic first time for Alessandro Gozzini and Luca Zhou (GSA Chiari/ASV Mals), who overcame Matteo Massetti and David Salutt (MaraBadminton) in two hard-fought partials (21-19; 25-23). /SSV Bozen).

In Para Badminton, double success for Yuri Ferrigno (BC Milan), who won the WH double title together with Roberto Punzo (GSPD). Ferrigno then won the men’s singles, beating Vincenzo Contemi (Pol. Masi) in two sets (21-3; 21-2). Double title also for Maria Grazia Leone (SEI), who won the WH women’s singles against Diana Luta (Alba Shuttle) and the mixed doubles together with Giuseppe Maurizio (ASAM), defeating Roberto Punzo and Diana Luta in two sets (21-17 ; 21-14).

The other WH title went to Piero Rosario Suma (GSPD), who defeated his clubmate Punzo in two sets (21-10; 21-3).

The two standing titles finally went to Rosa De Marco (GSPD), who triumphed in the SU5 singles, and to Tommaso Libertini, who won in the SL3 men’s singles.

The 2024 Italian Absolute and Para Badminton Championships were sponsored by Sport e Salute, CONI, CIP, the Municipality of Chiari, the Province of Brescia and the Lombardy Region, and took place with the support of Lab 3.11, of the Sport Foundation City and Sport Senza Frontiere Onlus. The event’s flywheel was provided by the RSL.
