Friday evening at At 18.30 the clock rang for another exciting round in the Badminton League, and all around the country’s badminton halls the skilled league teams delivered the goods in the form of strong performances and matches so close that in several cases you as a spectator had to move to the edge of your seat.

Hvidovre – Vendsyssel: 2-7
Friday evening on Biblioteksvej, Hvidovre was expecting a nice visit from the driving team from the north. It was Vendsyssel who paid the Copenhagen west sign a visit that could rightly be called not just for pleasure. While the people of Vendel could feel the cold shiver from Skovshoved, who with a distance of just two points was breathing down their necks, Hvidovre could play with the ambition of crawling back into the top four, which gives access to the play-offs.

Skovshoved – Aalborg Triton: 9-0
In the northern corner of Greater Copenhagen, the battle was to be between Skovshoved and Aalborg Triton, who were at opposite ends of the table before tonight’s match, each with their own intentions for the outcome of the round. While Aalborg Triton was looking for more points for the season result from the shock number of the standings, Skovshoved strove from second place for the leading position of the standings.
Skovshoved put a damper on Aalborg Triton’s point project and left them with nothing to the table but a single set, which Victor Nexø stole from Skovshoved’s Mads Christophersen in a tight first men’s doubles set. However, Mads Christophersen had no intention of letting this become a trend and in the two following sets secured one of the evening’s nine victories for Skovshoved 20-22, 21-13, 21-9.

Højbjerg/Via Biler – Solrød Strand: 5-4
In the southern part of Aarhus, the seventh round was to be decided between the third and fourth places in the standings: Højbjerg/Via Biler and Solrød Strand. In the last round, Solrød Strand managed to move into the top four of the overall standings, while the defending champions from Højbjerg could see themselves among an extremely close top three with just a single point to Skovshoved – the only team apart from themselves before tonight’s showdown. , who remained unbeaten in the group stage.
In the seventh round, Højbjerg/Via Biler continued their impressive winning streak through the regular game, but not without opposition from Solrød Strand, who made most of the matches extremely close. Højbjerg/Via Bilers Amalie Schulz Terp-Nielsen delivered two strong performances under Solrød Strand’s pressure, which in one case came in the form of Tara Shah, who in the second set came close to forcing the match into a third. RSL Odense OBK – Team Skælskør-Slagelse: 5-4
The sixth and seventh places in the overall standings were, after the league’s first six rounds, shared between two teams for whom the needle for the seventh round matchup was set in Funen on the Denmark map. Here, RSL Odense OBK could take on Team Skælskør-Slagelse, for a match that ended in the home team’s favour.
Although Team Skælskør-Slagelse fought back in several matches, more than half of which had to be decided in three sets, the away team, without their women’s singles Mia Blichfeldt, ultimately had to see themselves beaten by the Odenseans. The victory was won by Funen, among other things, on the basis of Søren Hald’s performance against Mark Caljouw in three close sets 21-18, 18-21, 21-15.

Gentofte – Værløse: 4-5
Another neighborly dispute had to be decided in northern Greater Copenhagen, where Gentofte and Værløse could enter the seventh round as each other’s opponents and neighbors in the table. Gentofte had nevertheless built up a 12-point lead over Værløse, who in ninth place faced the task of reversing a hitherto winless run through the group stage – a challenge they managed to overcome.
Although Gentofte did their part to extend Værløse’s winning streak, it was Værløse who were able to emerge victorious from the seventh league round after a particularly exciting team match, in which no one was gifted anything. Among others, Værløse’s Andreas Søndergård had a hand in the game in two of the evening’s four three-setters. He contributed victories in both men’s and mixed doubles. In the latter, together with partner Amalie Cecilie Kudsk, he won over the experienced Marie Røpke and NETC colleague Rasmus Kjær Pedersen, 15-21, 21-12, 21-15.

After the seventh round in the Badminton League, most teams remain in their respective places in the overall standings, with the exception of RSL Odense OBK, who draw from Team Skælskør-Slagelse by two points, while Skovshoved climbs up and joins Vendsyssel in the absolute top, where they currently shared for first and second place.
