Carlos Alcaraz‘s situation in the ATP Finals does not improve. The Murcian withdrew from training this Tuesday prior to the match against Andrey Rublev after not feeling fit due to the cold he has been carrying for days.

As confirmed by the Spanish media that traveled to Turin, where the Masters Tournament is being held this week, Alcaraz barely lasted five minutes with the American Andres Martin, a university champion who is in the championship as a sparring partner.

Alcaraz lost to Casper Ruud on Monday in his first match of the ATP Finals, which marked his first loss in five duels against the Norwegian. After the game, he confirmed that he has had a problem for days.

«Before coming to Turin I became ill. The days I trained here I felt good. Not very good, but good. I could play. I felt like I could get into the exchanges in training, but then in games it’s totally different. I wasn’t feeling well today and this morning my stomach hurt. I didn’t want to say it so it wouldn’t sound like an excuse, but I do feel bad, I feel bad,” the Spaniard argued at a press conference.

The sensations he conveyed this Tuesday in the session against Martin are not the best, but the Murcian will try to be on the court against Rublev, in the second duel of the Finals. If you do not win, you will be eliminated from the tournament.

Alcaraz and Rublev have met twice in the tournament, with a victory for each one. The Russian beat him this year at the Madrid Masters 1,000, while the Murcian took the victory in the group stage of the ATP Finals last year.

The Muscovite did not start his participation in Turin on the right foot either and lost by a double 6-4 against Alexander Zverev. Furthermore, Rublev has lost four of his last five matches and only beat Lorenzo Sonego in the first round in Metz.
