WASHINGTON – The Washington Capitals hockey players won 6:3 over Montreal in the overseas NHL, when Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal and two assists.
Slovak defender Martin Fehérváry in the home jersey and his compatriot Juraj Slafkovský did not score in the Canadiens team.
Washington decided its triumph with three goals in the third period and won its fifth straight home game. Ovechkin has scored three goals in the past two games, he already has 858 goals in the NHL and is 37 short of replacing Wayne Gretzky (894) at the top of the history table.
Fehérváry spent 23:44 minutes on the ice and was the second busiest skater of Washington, had a plus point, one shot, two blocked shots and three hits. Slafkovský recorded 19:17 minutes, two shots, three points and spent two minutes on the penalty bench for possession.
Czech forward Martin Nečas contributed significantly to Carolina’s 8:2 victory over Boston with four points (1+3). The Hurricanes succeeded in the fifth game in the series, Andrej Svečnikov contributed with two goals and an assist, and Jack Roslovic with two accurate hits. Swede William Nylander also scored two goals and his Toronto beat Seattle 4:1 at home. Auston Matthews had a goal and an assist, and John Tavares had two assists for a goal.
Even without the injured Connor McDavid, Edmonton won 5:1 on the ice of Nashville, Leon Draisaitl shone with two goals and an assist. Two-goal Sidney Crosby was the star of the evening in Pittsburgh, where the hosts defeated Anaheim 2:1 after extra time. At the beginning of the third period, he first equalized and scored the winning goal in the 63rd minute.
The Penguins thus ended a six-game losing streak. Bobby Brink decided with a goal three minutes before the end of Philadelphia’s triumph over St. Louis 2:1. Nineteen-year-old Will Smith enjoyed his first two goals in the NHL, the four of last year’s draft contributed to San Jose’s 3:2 victory over Chicago.
