Alexander Steinforth brings the NFL to Germany

There will be an NFL game on German soil on Sunday. NFL Germany boss Alexander Steinforth gives an outlook on the event in Munich. By Matthias Gindorf

When the NFL teams the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants meet on Sunday (November 10th), it won’t happen somewhere in the USA, but in Munich’s Allianz Arena. “Of course we want to bring the best from the league, the best from the NFL to Germany,” says NFL Germany boss Alexander Steinforth. “That’s why we play regular season games here, no friendly games, no pre-season games.”

Steinforth announces an “exciting halftime show” and also offers for fans without tickets in the city and at the stadium. The aim is to create a kind of “mini Superbowl for the German-speaking market”.

Knowing the rules increases the fun

Alexander Steinforth never really played American football himself, but came into contact with what was then NFL Europe, the transatlantic branch of the NFL, for the first time in the 1990s. In Düsseldorf, where he grew up, there was the “Rhein Fire” team – “that’s where I had my first contact with American football.”

“The more you get involved with it, the better you have an overview of the rules, the more fun it is to get involved with the sport,” says Steinforth. That’s the beauty of it. There is something on offer for every fan – for passionate and casual viewers alike.
