Jaipur: Choudhary hair of Rajasthan and Maharashtra’s Dev Ruparelia bagged back-to-back national-level titles when they triumphed in the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (Under-15 and Under-17) National Ranking Badminton tournament which concluded at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.
Top seeds Parul and Dev lived up to their top billing to emerge champions in the U-17 girls singles and U-17 boys singles, respectively. In the last All India ranking tournament in Vijayawada in September, Parul and Dev had won their maiden singles titles.
In the U-17 girls’ singles final, Parul rallied back splendidly to halt the impressive run of third seeded Lakshya Rajesh of Karnataka 21-19, 22-20. Southpaw Parul was down in both the games but staged a spectacular recovery to clinch her second title on the trot.
Bengaluru girl Lakshya saved match point to make it 20-20 in the second game. However, the tall lass made unforced errors on the final couple of points which helped local girl Parul seal the fate of her rival with a 21-19, 22-20 verdict.
Dev was unstoppable in the U-17 boys’ singles summit clash. The Palghar teenager Dev overcame the still challenge from his doubles partner Jagsher Singh of Punjab 21-18, 21-14 in a well-contested final. Eighth seed Jagsher was matching his rival stroke-for-stroke in the first game but as the match progressed Dev was in total command.
Hamsini of Telangana became the winner in the U-15 girls singles. In the title clash, Hamsini registered a resounding victory over top seeded Hitha Maria Joshe of Kerala 19-21, 21-18, 21-13.
In the U-17 boys’ doubles, the top seeded pair of Rajasthan’s Jangjit Singh Kajla and Arnav Sharma was upset in the final. Andhra Pradesh combination of C Thipanna and H Viram Reddy posted a brilliant come-from-behind win over local boys Jangjit and Arnav 23-25, 21-14, 21-18.
There was a big upset in the U-15 boys’ singles. Twelfth seed Harshit Khatri of Delhi stunned top seed Pushkar Sai of Karnataka 21-16, 21-19.
In the U-17 girls’ doubles, Akshita Manral and Shambhavi Rohtan overcame the stiff challenge from Tamil Nadu’s pair of Anjana Manikandan and Kruthya Silva 16-21, 21-12, 21-17 in the final.
In the title clash of under-15 age group mixed doubles, H. Senthala and S. The top seeded pair of Ranjan won the title by defeating Telangana’s pair of Rohan and Dhuruti 21-14, 15-21, 21-14.
Sachin A in Under-17 mixed doubles. And Ananya A. Defeated the pair of Akshay Singh and Anjana 21-18, 21-14 and captured the title.
S in the under-15 boys doubles final. The pair of Chaudhary and Shaurya Chaudhary defeated the pair of Gums Licha and Karansh Naidu 21-15, 21-15.
Rajasthan Badminton Association secretary KK Sharma and Jaipur District Badminton Association secretary Manoj Dasot distributed the awards. On this occasion, Dholpur secretary Zakir Hussain, Karauli secretary Rohit Arya, Bharatpur secretary Renu Lavania, Dausa secretary Chandresh Sharma and Tonk secretary Anil Gupta were also present.
