Amparo repeats at the top and judo writes down a name for the future

Team sports achieved triple qualification to the round of the best four and will go for medals at the La Araucanía Aysén 2024 Games, but there were also new achievements in athletics, again at the hands of Amparo Herrera. The surprise was an unexpected bronze in judo, from a 15-year-old boy who will have to be taken into account.

This is Sebastián González, who had to win five fights to reach the podium and expressed that “it is my first time in the Games and it leaves me with a good feeling. I only had a small technical failure, but it will be improved to have better results in the coming years.”

Regarding how he came to this sport, he explained that “I always saw this discipline on YouTube and it seemed good to me, boxing type, and I decided to get into judo. I am training every week and the results will improve each time. I thought the level of these Games was good and, above all, the Argentine one. I won five fights and lost only one, so happy.” He has several Araucanías left in front of him and there will surely be more golds in his career.

And in team sports, basketball is taking the cake, since the ladies are already among the four best teams in the event and the men achieved the same ticket, defeating an always strong team, such as Río Negro. Women’s volleyball, meanwhile, remains undefeated and today will try to get into the final for gold.

Not so well did he go to soccer, where both teams were left out of the four that go for gold. The women’s eleven could only draw 0-0 with Los Lagos – they had just tied 1-1 with Chubut – and it was not enough for them to reach higher.

In athletics there is a name that is repeated with golden letters. Biobío scored another double and this time it was in the 800 meter dash, with Amparo Herrera -yes the same girl who won in the 1,500 meter- reaching the finish line first of all. The best thing is that she was supported by her partner Fernanda Pavez. It is the fifth medal that the Region has obtained in athletics events, as it also had the silver from Florencia Lara in 1,500 meters and the gold from Matías Inostroza in the javelin throw.
