Andoni Azurmendi bHe was re-elected this Saturday as president of the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA), after the Extraordinary General Assembly held at the LaLiga headquarters. Azurmendi, who came to office in October 2020, will continue to lead this federation for at least the next four years, after obtaining majority support. Of the 63 of 68 assembly members who have been present, Azurmendi has added 44 votes to Rodrigo Sanjurjo’s 19.
As he himself has taken it upon himself to remember, “Of the 1,754 people who made up the census of the Federation, 991 exercised their right to vote. That is, 56.50%, which makes these elections the ones with the highest participation in our history and one of the most attended with compared to other national federations.” With this re-election, Andoni Azurmendi not only consolidates the renewal of Fesba that began in 2020, but also ensures “the continuity of the projects initiated in close collaboration with the Higher Sports Council, with the priority objective of promoting growth and the visibility of our sport, as well as marking the path towards excellence in Spanish badminton.”
The objectives of the president of Fesba and his team are to “continue to grow by increasing licenses and competitions, training technicians and referees, obtaining sporting results, in addition to maintaining Spain’s weight in the organization of international events, without “never forget our seniors and para-badminton.” As Azurmendi points out, “we are facing a frenetic end to the year, with Spanish Championships in Oviedo, Lanzarote, Las Torres de Cotillas (Region of Murcia), Granollers and El Sauzal (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). Furthermore, from November 26 to December 8, Ibiza will once again be the epicenter of international badminton, hosting four top-level competitions: the European Junior Championships, individual and team, the qualifier for the European Team Championship and the Spanish International”.
“They are very important events due to the level of organization they entail and the volume and quality of athletes they attract,” where the re-elected president does not forget to highlight “what a shame it is for the Spanish National Team not to be able to count on our champion in Ibiza, Carolina Marínwhom I take this opportunity to congratulate on his recent recognitions.”
